Our awards

Spectrum has won and been shortlisted over 50 times for national healthcare awards. Many of our services are recognised for their innovation and commitment to tackling health inequality.

Here are some of our notable initiatives commended through awards:

Our team in HMP Deerbolt triumphed at the ‘Skills for Health’ Our Health Heroes Awards, receiving recognition for our health champions programme which supports offenders to gain skills and qualifications, by acting as health ambassadors for their peers. This programme is now delivered across seven prisons in the North East.

A trauma-informed Cervical Screening programme in HMP Styal led to more than 400 vulnerable women accessing screening and an increase in uptake from 62% to 90% over two years. This project was shortlisted for multiple awards, including the RCNI Nurse Awards and the Nursing Times Awards.

Our forensic primary care team in Fieldhead Hospital received the Chief Executive’s Award from NHS South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust in 2022. Our small team provide primary care for patients in a medium secure psychiatric hospital.

Our PROVENT Antibody Trail won the Pharma Times Clinical Research Award and the NHR Yorkshire and Humber Research Awards for outstanding contribution to COVID-19 research.

One of Spectrum’s senior nurse leaders, Kim Hogg, developed a bespoke midwifery service and has led on initiatives to improve care for pregnant women in custody. Kim also helped create the first ever dedicated prison colposcopy clinic in the UK and Europe back in 2009, when it beat projects from 39 other countries to win a World Health Organisation (WHO) award. In 2022, she received an Our Health Heroes Bronze Award for ‘Lifetime Contribution to Healthcare’, and was also named ‘Nurse Manager of the Year’, in the Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2021.

Spectrum was a key partner in the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership Root out Racism anti-racism movement which scooped NHS Communications Initiative of the Year at the HSJ Awards. The campaign invited local organisations to pledge their support as community allies.
