Spectrum has donated a portion of their fundraising efforts from a recent staff survey, to a Chorley-based charity.
This spring, Spectrum asked staff to nominate their favourite regional charities (reflecting the footprint of the organisation) to receive fundraising donations. For each colleague that completed Spectrum’s annual staff survey, £10 was added to the fundraiser – with a total of £4,620 raised for charity (£1,540 each). This was over £800 more raised than last year’s staff survey.
Following a staff vote, the charity which was selected for the North West was Derian House Children’s Hospice. Founded 30 years ago, Derian House provides respite and end-of-life care to more than 400 children and young people with life-limiting conditions in Lancashire & South Cumbria.
Ellie Smith, Community Fundraiser at Derian House, said, ‘We cannot thank Spectrum enough. Their very generous donation could send one of our families on holiday for a week, and also provide a whole month’s activities for one of our children and their siblings. I’m sure I can speak on behalf of our families, when I pass on their sincere thanks for the support.”
Representing Spectrum at the cheque presentation was Rachel Renwick, Healthcare Manager at HMP Hindley and part of the team who originally nominated Derian House as their NW charity of choice.
Rachel said, “As we work with vulnerable communities within a secure estate, we are acutely aware how much recognition and support can mean to people. Derian House was an obvious choice for us, to give our support to within the wider community.”
Dr Linda Harris OBE, Chief Executive of Spectrum, said, “On behalf of the Board of Spectrum, we are thoroughly grateful to all staff who, on completion of the most recent staff survey, automatically contributed to the overall donation of £4,620 which has been allocated to three great charities. Through these donations, we have been able to ensure that Spectrum fulfils its mission to contribute to social causes. Our action will make a difference through wide-ranging charitable endeavours chosen, because they mean a lot to our own staff teams.”
