Last week, Spectrum colleagues were honoured to welcome both the General Secretary and the North West Regional Director of Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to HMP Liverpool.
RCN represents over half a million nursing staff and students in the UK and internationally. What began in 1916 as the College of Nursing – with just 34 members – has evolved into the largest professional association and nursing union in the world.
The event, on 17 October, saw our visitors learn more about prison healthcare and what it entails.
RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive Professor Nicola Ranger said: “It was a privilege to visit HMP Liverpool and meet just some of the incredible Spectrum staff who are providing amazing care and support for individuals. Expert healthcare provided by our members is not just essential in helping people live healthier lives in custody, but also in supporting rehabilitation. It was fascinating to learn how healthcare providers work together to make this a reality.”
RCN North West Regional Director Simon Browes added: “We were particularly impressed with how Spectrum colleagues accommodated and adapted care for the needs of individuals, and worked collaboratively with the prison staff and other agencies.”
