It’s National Apprenticeship Week and we’re shining a light on the positive impact that degree apprenticeships are making to individuals and organisations, like ours.
Held between 10th-16th February this year, NAW 2025 encourages everyone to consider and celebrate how apprenticeships and skills help individuals develop rewarding careers, and aid employers in developing a workforce with future-ready skills.
Ahead of NAW 2025, Spectrum colleague Ryan Tallentire received the fantastic news that he passed his end-point assessment with distinction and will be awarded a Master’s for his Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) Degree Apprenticeship.
Ryan, who began his ACP training in September 2022 with the University of Cumbria, is full of praise for Spectrum and its focus on the importance of further studies and career development, whilst working.
“Taking my first job within prison healthcare was the best decision I have made. Spectrum has provided me with a solid platform for my career and has allowed for excellent professional development – including further university study, prescribing, and my ACP training.”
Ryan has been, and continues to be, a hugely valued member of Spectrum’s team at HMP Haverigg. In 2023, Ryan received the Unsung Hero Award at Spectrum’s annual Staff Conference & Awards ceremony, followed by a nomination for the Karen Jordan Outstanding Nurse Of The Year Award at last year’s event.
Its not only clinical staff who are reaping the benefits of degree apprenticeships; Resourcing Business Partner Tara McKevitt, based at Spectrum’s regional office in Darlington, is currently excelling in her course. Tara is undertaking a Senior Leadership Apprenticeship (SLA) Master’s – accredited by the Chartered Management Institute – at Teesside University Business School. Her plans for the future include completing a CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice, to gain Chartered Management Status.
