This recognition celebrates Lynne’s exceptional commitment, compassion, and professionalism, which have made a significant impact on both patients and colleagues within the challenging prison healthcare environment.
Lynne is a shining example of dedication in her field, consistently going above and beyond to provide outstanding care. She brings warmth, expertise and an unwavering sense of duty to her role, ensuring that even the most vulnerable patients receive the support they need. Whether advocating for better healthcare access, stepping in during a crisis, or simply being a reassuring presence for those in distress, Lynne is a true asset to the team at HMP Durham.
Making a Lasting Difference
One of Lynne’s most remarkable achievements has been her work with a prisoner who had a long history of severe self-harm and was initially unwilling to engage with healthcare services. This patient often required frequent hospital visits, placing significant pressure on both the healthcare team and prison operations.
However, through patience, persistence and genuine compassion, Lynne was able to build trust and establish a therapeutic relationship that enabled the individual to receive treatment on-site.
This was a turning point, not just for the patient’s wellbeing, but also for the broader healthcare team, reducing the need for external hospital transfers and allowing care to be delivered in a more consistent and controlled environment. Lynne’s ability to break down barriers and engage with even the most complex cases is a testament to her dedication and skill.
Beyond the Call of Duty
Lynne’s contributions extend far beyond individual patient care. She has been instrumental in promoting health awareness among foreign national prisoners, ensuring that language barriers and cultural differences do not prevent individuals from accessing essential healthcare information. Working alongside Novus, she has helped adapt the delivery of health education, making it more inclusive, accessible, and impactful.
In high-pressure environments such as the Integrated Support Unit and Segregation Unit, Lynne remains a steady and highly skilled presence, responding swiftly to crises and ensuring that patients receive the care they need. Whether delivering life-saving CPR or supporting a distressed individual through a challenging moment, her ability to stay calm and focussed in difficult situations has earned the respect and admiration of colleagues across the prison.

Lynne’s colleagues often describe her as the “Polyfilla” of healthcare – someone who holds everything together, always stepping in where she’s needed and never hesitating to go the extra mile. She is widely recognised for her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to build trust with both staff and prisoners alike.
