Spectrum Reaffirms Commitment To Mental Health In The Workplace

09/06/2025

Mental health remains one of the most pressing challenges in UK workplaces today. With employees facing growing pressures – from rising living costs to increasing workloads and rapidly evolving work environments – both individuals and organisations are feeling the strain.

In a proactive step to address these challenges, Spectrum Community Health CIC has renewed its pledge to support employee mental wellbeing by successfully reaccrediting as a Mindful Employer. This milestone confirms Spectrum’s continued commitment to the Charter for Employers Positive about Mental Health, which it has proudly upheld since 2021. The renewed accreditation will remain in place until May 2027.

Spectrum joins more than 1,350 organisations across the UK who have signed the Mindful Employer Charter, in a bid to create workplaces where mental health is openly supported and stigma-free.

To maintain its status, Spectrum undertook a comprehensive review of their current mental health policies reflecting on how they were working to promote commitment to staff mental health, details of the good mental health practises that are currently in place and areas for improvement.

By signing the Charter, Spectrum pledges to:

  • Provide non-judgemental and proactive support to staff with experience of mental ill-health.
  • Avoid making assumptions about a person with a mental health condition and their ability to work.
  • Be positive and enabling toward all employees and applicants with a mental health condition.
  • Support line managers in managing mental health in the workplace.
  • Ensure the fair recruitment of staff in accordance with the Equality Act (2010).
  • Make it clear that people who have experience of mental ill-health will not be discriminated against.

“Spectrum is working towards creating a supportive and open working environment, so staff feel able to talk about mental health—with the aim of building a workplace that promotes wellbeing for everyone,” said Dr Linda Harris OBE, Chief Executive of Spectrum.

“We offer a wide range of support services including Occupational Health (provided by People Asset Management – PAM), counselling access via Vivup, and online resources like podcasts, self-help booklets, and audiobooks. We also have a team of trained Mental Health First Aiders to ensure there’s always someone available to listen and signpost support.”

This renewed accreditation aligns with national evidence. According to Deloitte’s Mental Health and Employers – The Case for Investment 2024:

  • Employers who provide mental health training for managers report a 30% reduction in mental health-related absences.
  • 52% of employees feel more engaged and productive when workplace wellbeing resources are available.
  • Companies that build a culture of openness and mental health awareness see a 20% boost in employee retention.

By maintaining its status as a Mindful Employer, Spectrum is proud to not only prioritise the health of its employees, but also build a resilient, inclusive, and compassionate workplace for the future.
