On Wednesday 11 December, Spectrum hosted their inaugural virtual Wound Care Conference via Microsoft Teams. The event was a resounding success, featuring collaboration from external speakers, trainers, and wound care representatives from our wound care formulary. A series of engaging and informative training sessions were delivered, including:
· Burns Management by Flen Health
· Wound Assessment by Hartmann
· Wound Bed Preparation by L&R
· Treatment of Antibiotic-Resistant Wound Infections by Convatec
· Pressure Areas and Moisture Damage by Medicareplus
· Wound Care Training, Pathways and Formulary by Spectrum
There was a high turnout of colleagues from services across our organisation, alongside participation from external stakeholders.
Mari-Louisa Wotton, Spectrum’s Head of Nursing and Clinical Effectiveness Lead, said: “The event was an invaluable opportunity to discuss and share knowledge whilst receiving updates on our wound care formulary products, pathways, and processes for evidence-based care. Expert speakers delivered training on a variety of key topics – from wound assessment and infected wound management, to the triage, assessment and immediate care for individuals who had sustained a burn injury.
The conference was open to internal and external stakeholders, as our focus was on collaboration, improving service delivery, and patient care. It was fabulous to see so many attendees from across all services and also our partner agencies. Initial feedback has been amazing and we are already thinking of how we can get the patient voice and case study involvement for next year’s wound care conference.”

Due to the overwhelming success of the day, plans are already underway for next year’s event. Staff will be able to attend six-weekly wound care forums and supervision sessions moving forward.
Everyone who attended received a CPD certificate and all training materials from the conference will be uploaded to the staff intranet for ongoing use.
